The Brunch Corner: Little Fern

Little Fern is a very cozy, chic restaurant run by two meticulous New Zealand surfers in the Poblenou neighborhood of Barcelona. The silver fern, a symbol of New Zealand, inspired the restaurant’s visual identity. Drawing from the movement and waves of the sea, Mayúscula designed various brand elements, including the logo, menu, signage, and a custom typography created specifically for the brand.

Mayúscula developed a logo with ligatures where smaller letters are overlapped by larger ones, eliminating gaps between “LI,” “TT,” and “LE.” The design incorporates shapes that reference the natural curves of ferns and subtly nod to the waves that the owners are so passionate about.

Additionally, a custom typeface named “Little” was created, where smaller letters nest within larger ones, ensuring cohesive spacing and a welcoming visual flow. This approach eliminates awkward gaps between letters.

Mayúscula also designed the signage, packaging, menu, business cards, and other applications related to hospitality, creating a cohesive and inviting identity for Little Fern.
